Groundworks
Solid groundworks are the foundation of every successful build. We handle all aspects of site preparation and substructure work, ensuring your project starts on stable, properly prepared ground.
Site Clearance and Enabling Works
Removing vegetation, topsoil, existing structures, and debris. May include demolition, tree felling, or creating temporary site access roads.
Setting Out/Surveying and Marking
Establishing grid lines, benchmarks, and staking out foundations, drainage routes, and boundaries using precise surveying tools.
Bulk Earthworks / Excavation and Grading
Cut and fill to achieve required levels: mass excavation, bulk removal of soil, levelling (grading), and compaction of sub-grade to create a uniform platform.
Trenching and Substructure Excavation
Digging trenches for foundations, footings, service ducts, and drainage systems. Includes over-excavation if poor ground is encountered.
Ground Stabilization (if required)
Improving weak soils through methods like vibro-compaction, stone columns, soil nailing, ground anchors, grouting, or piling (driven, bored, or CFA piles).
Sub-base and Hardcore Preparation
Laying and compacting hardcore (crushed stone), blinding sand, or geotextiles to form a stable base for slabs or roads.
From the initial quote to completion we could not fault them (except perhaps Robbie’s music). I have no hesitation at all in recommending Ollie Mart building services. We very much look forward to working with all the team on future projects."
Drainage Systems Installation
Installing foul (sewer), surface water (storm), land drains, attenuation tanks, soakaways, or sustainable drainage (SuDS) features. Includes pipes, manholes, gullies, and testing.
Concrete Works (Blinding, Slabs, etc.)
Pouring ground-floor slabs, blinding layers, or suspended slabs over prepared sub-bases.
Backfilling and Compaction
Refilling trenches around services and foundations with selected fill material, compacted in layers to prevent settlement.
Retaining Structures (if needed)
Building retaining walls, basements, or flood defences to manage level changes or water.
Final Grading and Temporary Surfaces
Achieving finished levels, installing temporary hardcore for site traffic, and preparing for landscaping reinstatement.
Civil Engineering
Specialist groundworks including raft foundations and retaining walls for complex or challenging sites.
Testing and Certification
Conducting compaction tests, concrete cube tests, drainage CCTV surveys, pressure testing, and handover inspections.
